Module 4: Abdominal Hysterectomy

This module demonstrates techniques for simple abdominal hysterectomy, as well as abdominal hysterectomy in a patient with a markedly enlarged uterus. Demonstrated are techniques on performing hysterectomy in patients with severe adhesions requiring extensive dissection in the retroperitoneal space, ureteral identification, and lysis of bowel adhesions. Also demonstrated are techniques to catheterize the ureters via an intentional cystotomy to facilitate identification and palpation of ureters during the performance of a difficult abdominal hysterectomy.
