Dedicated to Improving the Skills and Knowledge of the Pelvic Surgeon.

Module 1: Pelvic Anatomy

This module utilizes cadaveric video footage, as well as live patient videos to demonstrate all aspects of pelvic anatomy with the ultimate objective of having a clear three-dimensional understanding of the anatomy of the pelvic floor. Videos include anatomy related to placement of synthetic slings, as well as anatomy related to laparoscopic, vaginal, and open procedures are provided. Of note, other anatomy related videos are provided throughout the video library as introductory chapters for many of the other modules.

This video from the Cleveland Clinic clearly describes the anatomy of the obturator space and the technique of transobturator sling, using illustrations, cadaver dissections, and live surgical footage.

Exciting Developments are on the Horizon

In 2023, the founders of the International Academy of Pelvic Surgery (IAPS), Dr. Mark Walters, Dr. Mickey Karram, and Cheryl Perrero generously donated the IAPS platform and all of its contents to IUGA. We are so grateful for their hard work in creating this incredible resource, for the kind decision to gift it to IUGA, and for all they did for IAPS and for urogynecology as a whole! Truly a ‘labor of love’, this incredible collection of educational resources could never have come to fruition without the dedication and persistence of some very committed champions. We are truly honored that those champions are now entrusting IUGA to carry on this legacy. Over the next few months, we will work on the transition to integrate IAPS into IUGA. We will continue to invest in further developing the valuable resource established by IAPS to ensure that resources in pelvic surgery remain relevant, renew, and expand on the information available, and provide added value to all IAPS and IUGA members and the field at large.

What Does This Mean for You?

In the beginning, the main change will be that your emails and inquiries are now answered by IUGA staff. As the transition progresses, it will bring only good things! IAPS members will receive free IUGA membership with their IAPS subscription, and IUGA members will have the option to opt-in for IAPS membership. Once the transition begins, we will keep you posted on our progress.
